The Hope is vast, profound, and complex. It requires great breadth of thought to comprehend it. Imagination might help to understand it. With imagination, we might be able to wrap our minds around everything the Hope entails. But imagination is still not enough.

Normal human thought processes are not enough either. We need to be enlightened. We need to be enlightened through a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God. Only with such knowledge are we able to fathom the Hope of his calling.

… making mention in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him (the eyes of your hearts having been enlightened), so that you may know what is the Hope of his calling, what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance among the saints… (Ephesians 1:16-18; LEB)

Some things cannot be learned in college. The Hope is one of those things. You won’t find the Hope on the Internet. You can’t buy a book that explains the Hope or sign up for a course about the riches of our inheritance. The only way for you to understand the Hope is if God gives you a spirit of wisdom and revelation. If you get such a spirit, you then will be able to know ‘what the Hope of his calling is.’

The Specifics

Specifically, when we talk about the Hope of God’s high calling—what are we talking about? What has he called us to do? To reign.

they will reign with him a thousand years (Revelation 20:6; LEB).

… if we endure, we will also reign with him (2 Timothy 2:12; LEB).

And, if in the passage above, it says that God has called us to inherit the riches of the glory of his inheritance, what will we inherit? We will inherit the Earth.

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the Earth (Matthew 5:5).

But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity… the righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever (Psalm 37:11, 29).

When will we inherit the Earth? We’ll inherit it when the Kingdom comes to Earth.

… your Kingdom come (Matthew 6:10).

I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of Heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband (Revelation 21:2).

Do these verses help you visualize what the riches of the glory of his inheritance among the saints will look like? We’ll reign on Earth in God’s Kingdom! Yes, we are called to physically reign on Earth in our resurrected bodies in God’s Kingdom.

Things God Has Prepared

For now, nobody is able to fully comprehend the Kingdom inheritance. But with lots of Bible study, revelations from God, and the spirit of wisdom, we can get an idea. Even so, it’s beyond anything we have ever imagined.

… we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory.

But as it is written: ‘Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love him.’ But God has revealed them to us through his Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:7-10; NKJV).

Did that passage speak of ‘the things which God has prepared for those who love him’? Yes. So, God has prepared things. He prepares those things through Christ Jesus. Can we talk about those things? What are they? Some examples of the things God has prepared are:

-- exotic animals becoming our tame domestic pets

-- the capability to fly

-- the capability to teleport (disappear in one place and appear in another)

-- the blessing of living in a society that serves God through worship and the -- -- celebration of God-ordained holidays (a World with one religion)

-- to each have our own beautiful home and garden

-- to have angels as our servants to do our bidding

-- agricultural bonanza

-- abundant fresh fruits/vegetables/grain/bread/meat

-- peace and security

-- pristine rivers/streams/lakes

-- great wealth and prosperity

-- a productive society which has engineering, social, and educational projects that --- make life pleasant

-- intelligence without bounds

-- perfect health

-- eternal youthfulness

-- physical beauty and strength for everyone

-- immortality—we’ll never die

This is a short list. We won’t get into further details, but we will dare to mention one more thing: that we will enter the City of God, the New Jerusalem. Jesus has gone to Heaven to prepare it for us. When it comes, we’ll become inhabitants of that city, the city to which we truly belong. Even now we are citizens of the New Jerusalem. She is our mother even though we’re not dwelling in it yet.

In my Father’s House there are many dwelling places; but if not, I would have told you, because I am going away to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself, so that where I am, you may be also (John 14:2-3; LEB).

the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother (Galatians 4:26).

Our Vocation

To this we have been called—to inherit the Kingdom. When we finally serve God in his Kingdom, we will have completed our search--we will have discovered the Hope of his calling (Ephesians 1:18). A calling is a vocation. That means that in the Kingdom a meaningful existence awaits. But, admittedly, to call it existence does not do it justice. Better to call it eternal life. Or, even better, abundant life. Jesus came to give us life abundantly.

I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10).

Our resurrection will be the glorious fulfillment of our deepest joy. We will have reached what psychologists call self-actualization—fulfillment! When our Hope is fulfilled, we will have come to be all that we can be. But where exactly is this potential now? Where is the key to being all you can be? It’s hidden with Christ in God.

… you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory (Colossians 3:3-4; NASB).
